The word `America' comes from the Italian name Amerigo (after the `explorer' Amerigo Vespucci.) What is not generally known (at least in the US) is that Amerigo is the italicization of the Hungarian name Imre (I'm not sure if its exactly Imre, or an older form thereof---anyway, it's the saint's name.) In other words, `America' can etymologically be said to be a Hungarian word. Hrvoje H. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
