REC: Information Services Project Manager, Information Exchange Department
The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) is
an international organization based in Szentendre, Hungary having the
mission to assist in solving the environmental problems of the Central and
Eastern European region through the promotion of the international
cooperation of governments and environmental experts, the free exchange of
information and public participation in environmental decision making.
The main goals of the Information Exchange Department (IED) are to:
o Provide and improve public access to environmental information,
o Promote networking and the exchange of information among environmental
stakeholders,
o Improve the availability and distribution of REC products and services.
The IED provides environmental information through its in-house library,
free information request service, publications and electronic media.
Publications include directories, a regional environmental journal,
reports, surveys, newsletters and tipsheets. All REC publications and
databases are available in electronic format through the World-wide Web.
Electronic communications activities also include a daily environmental
news service, in-house information management and systems support and
telematics- related applications using the latest communication
technologies. Finally, IED provides information support specifically
tailored to the region's environmental media and communicates the REC's
activities and developments to its constituents in the region and
world-wide.
The following position is open at the REC:
Information Services Project Manager
General Responsibilities:
The Information Services Project Manager is responsible for managing the
library, supervising the information services staff, maintaining and
developing environmental databases, and coordinating the REC's information
requests service.
Experience and skill level required:
o Minimum two years experience in library/information management,
preferably in environmental field
o Excellent organisational and communications skills
o Experience with library management computer software systems,
computer-based databases, and Internet software
o Solid project management skills: planning, budgets, project proposals,
operating policies
o Supervisory experience
o Fluency in English (and one regional language preferred)
Education:
University degree in information sciences or library management preferred
