GRANT, AWARD AND FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The Institute of Ecosytem Studies  (IES) is pleased to offer
research opportunities to eight undergraduates this summer
through the NSF-supported Research Experiences for
Undergraduates (REU) program (deadline: February 15, 1995).

The University of California Forest Products Laboratory
(UCFPL) is requesting proposals for two programs: (1) Safer,
more economical, and more durable wood-based structures and
(2) Increased utilization of wood and biomass from state
resources.  Awards typically will be in the range of $10,000
to $30,000 (deadline: March 15, 1995).

The James W. Sinden Scholarship Committee of the American
Mushroom Institute is  pleased to announce the availability
of a scholarship award to graduate students conducting
dissertation research involving edible mushrooms and/or
edible fungi (deadline: May 1, 1995).

California Sea Grant State Fellow Program provides a unique
educational opportunity for graduate students who are
interested both in marine resources and in the policy
decisions affecting those resources.  The program matches
highly motivated and qualified graduate students with
"hosts" in the California State Legislature or in State
agencies for a 9-month paid fellowship (deadline: April 7,
1995).

The National Science Foundation is offering selected
opportunities in science and engineering to graduate and
undergraduate students.  Research Experiences for
Undergraduates is intended to provide undergraduates with
hands-on, active research experiences in science,
mathematics and engineering.  NSF grantees may request
supplemental support to add student research assistants to
an existing research project.  Graduate Research Fellowships
will be awarded at or near the beginning of graduate study
and will be for a maximum of three years.
